RE: DETAILS FOR THE REUNION – AUGUST 12 - 14, POKAGON STATE PARK – ANGOLA, IN
We are just a few weeks away from gathering at Pokagon State Park in Angola, Indiana. The arrangements have been sent out previously, but we thought it would be good to send out this reminder as to what is happening and what you need to do to participate in the reunion activities.
1. Attendees arriving at the lodge can meet in the assigned hospitality room – check the board listing all activities to find out which room we will be using – and those camping can join their fellow campers and/or come to visit at the lodge.
2. Friday dinner is on your own – the lodge has a very nice restaurant with salad bar (and a hot and cold buffet for breakfast for the mornings) and there are some nice restaurants just outside of the park.
3. Saturday is full of possible activities – horseback riding, boat trips on the lake, swimming in the pool or on the sandy beach just outside of the lodge, hiking the trails, visiting the Auburn/Cord Automobile Museum (just a short trip down I-65 – less than an hour) etc. We have reserved the Lonidaw – a canopied boat that holds 15 people – for an hour cruise on the lakes in the park. It is a great boat ride – the cost is $10 adults, $8 seniors and $5 kids. We have tentatively booked an 10:00 am trip and a 3:00 pm trip for Saturday, and more can be scheduled.
4. We have reserved the Sweet Gum Shelter for all of Saturday, where we can gather and share stories, photos, lies, etc. The shelter is 36’ x 24’ overlooking a grassy area just down the road from the lodge. The Hrubecky clan often has pizza brought in for lunch, and this is a possibility. You can bring a picnic lunch and/or snacks to the shelter, the restaurant and snack bar at the lodge have a good lunch selection, and there is a wide variety of restaurants just outside the park.
5. For Saturday dinner, we have booked a private room for a banquet. Cost for the banquet including tax and gratuity is $25 per person ($23 per child aged 4 - 11). There will be a table for those who do not want to eat at the buffet but want to come to share in the hospitality. The buffet will have fried lake perch, grilled chicken and flame broiled beef tips, with buttered egg noodles, baked redskin potatoes, green bean medley, buttered corn, tossed salad, baked breads, coffee, iced tea and lemonade. Estimated time for banquet start is 6:00 PM.
6. There will be a campfire, with guitars and songs – a Hrubecky reunion tradition – on Friday and Saturday evenings. We’ll meet at the fire circle just outside the inn on the lake side. Sunset will be about 8:45 pm, so we’ll gather about 8:15 pm – as people wander out to the fire circle from the banquet room.
NOTE: We need to finalize how many people
will be attending the banquet by July 27, and then confirm final totals with
the lodge several days before the actual August 13 date. Thus we ask that you
send a check for the banquet to Katharine
Rojik as soon as possible.
We will share the facility cost of the hospitality room among the families attending and we will collect this during the reunion. It is expected to be a nominal fee, probably about $15 per family.
Sunday breakfast is on your own, and several people may be leaving quite early, but some are staying for a few more days. It looks like a great reunion, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in a few short weeks!
